Take care of your eyes, they are working extra hard at the moment.

During these times of increased screen usage, it's important to take care of your eyes, as they are working extra hard. Whether you're working remotely or spending more time on digital devices, consider implementing some blue light/digital solutions to alleviate the strain.

Our vision connects us with the world, especially now when physical contact is limited. With the reliance on screens for work, education, and information, our eyes have taken on additional responsibilities.

Digital Screen Blue Light

To address the potential effects of blue light emitted by digital screens, consider using glasses that reduce blue light. These glasses can enhance focus, reduce eye strain, and even improve sleep.

To maintain eye comfort while working or studying from home, here are a few suggestions and tips:

1.       Adjust the brightness of your device to reduce strain. (The College of Optometrists , 2020);

2.       Take regular breaks every 45 minutes for at least 2 minutes;

3.       Position your screen at least 60 centimeters away from your eyes. (Optometry Australia, 2020); and

4.       Keep reference or reading material at the same distance as your screen to avoid frequent adjustments. (Optometry Australia, 2020).

Apart from following general health guidelines, the best thing you can do for your eyes is to give them some rest. Put the screen aside, turn off the television, and engage your other senses. Listen to music or take the opportunity to read that book you've been meaning to.

Remember that 76% of Australians consider eyesight their most important sense. Take some time for yourself and prioritize your eye health during this period. Your eyes will thank you.
